DAUPHIN • Hanoverian • 16.1½ • 1999 • Breeder: Maxine Mickel

Dauphin's sire, Donnerhall, needs no introduction. His dam, SPS Fabia, comes from the breeding program of the late Otto Schulte-Frohlinde, founder of Donnerhall's former stallion station, Groenwohldhof. Fabia’s dam, SPS Papermoon, was winner of her age division at the 1990 Bundestutenschau. Fabia was champion of the 1993 Bruchhausen-Vilsen Mare Show. All of Fabia's daughters have achieved either the SPS in Germany or the Elite Mare designation of the American Hanoverian Society.

In 2002, Dauphin was invited to join 49 state-owned stallions for the 11-month training and stallion performance testing at Adelheidsdorf. His overall final score of 115.44 ranked him 10th in the group; his placing in dressage (score of 125.13) was 4th. At the end of his test, the Celle director invited Dauphin to stay at the Hanoverian State Stud on breeding lease.

In his first year at Celle, Dauphin bred 110 mares, a number which put him in the top 10% of the state stallions. The second year, he bred 135. The German breeders report that they like the typey, modern foals Dauphin produces. They also like the correctness and the good gaits in Dauphin's offspring, notably the walk and canter. Dauphin foals have placed well in foal shows and it is reported that a number of his colts have been purchased by stallion producers.
